I don’t give a single solitary fuck what the laws were in ancient shurima, or ancient rome, or ancient greece, or what they are in Europe, or what they are on the goddamn moon.

Because, you see, what I care about is the morality of the situation. Rape is not just a legal crime, it’s a moral crime. It’s a bad fucking thing to do. And guess what? We don’t define it by ‘what is legal’, because it’s still legal to rape your spouse in some states. Today.

And this straight up has nothing to do with me ‘wanting to do something about rape’! You know what I want? I want to be able to log onto this website, that I come on for fun and not see people treating a CRIME as something that’s ‘totally okay, bro, don’t overreact!’ Because I see enough of that shit on the goddamn news and in fucking courtrooms and it’s half the reason I’m pursuing a law degree. So keep making idiotic apologetic statements all you want, recontextualize it all you want, I literally don’t care. It doesn’t change the fact that the act itself is a bad fucking thing. Rape is bad. And regardless of how rape was defined at certain points and during certain time periods, it IS WHAT IT IS. Rape by any other name is just as fucked up.))

Morality can change during the ages. Is not set on stone. 

Well, like i said earlier, we don’t have all the information on the subject. Really, this is just a missinterpretation, for just a single word. Take into account the character of Azir. How he behaves, what he does, what he wants. Then add a word and that means nothing. It doesn’t make sense

I’m, of course, against rape. But relax for a moment and think of it. It’s a side story, for a character we know have some good moral standpoint, going against the main morality of his age. Morality is personal, and changing subject. What we think is good in 2016 could be seen as barbaric and stupid in 2516. It’s called historical perspective.

That being said, what we think today, in the real world, about things, doesn’t have to be what shurimans think in the fantasy world of runeterra. Is a fantasy setting, wich means that they can have this kind of morality shifts, to make certain situations appear as they want to unfold them. How can you make an apealing story, with some tropes used, if you can’t use certain words? (for fucks shake)

Slave can mean a lot of things. We don’t know how all slaves in Shurima were treated, just only those used on heavy work. We don’t know how other types of slaves behave, or if they have some form of rights or social protection via religion/morals/law. It’s strange that, just because the use of a word, people start to think way too much ahead, disregarding all the previous information and knowledge on the matter at hand: Azir.

Azir was presented as a somewhat “good” guy. Now because is hinted that he had sex with someone called “slave” (without knowing if she was a slave when Azir banged her, for example, since we don’t have the slightest idea when that happened) now he’s the worst of the worst.

In my honest opinion, you’re making a big deal out of nothing. Rape is bad? Of course. But it is never revealed, hinted, or mentioned directly that Azir forced someone. Maybe the gal he banged was a slave to a rich family, but they met in the marketplace. Because we don’t have any context, we can start assuming whatever we want, and we can’t prove it.

So, looking at things as they are, talking about azir as a rapist is a blatant stupidity. Is like saying that all the Russians drink vodka, or like every Englishman walks with an umbrella and drinks tea. Or that all Spanish people are bullfighters. Plainly stupid. And unsourced. That usually happens when people cast a judgement based on prejudice and not on evidence.
